On behalf of the City of Fayetteville, Cool Spring Downtown District (CSDD) is pleased to announce the marquee headliners for the second annual Juneteenth Jubilee in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, in Festival Park on Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, 2023. 

In keeping with the 1970s theme, organizers are pleased to announce the headlining acts for Saturday’s stage. The opening headline act is an acclaimed disco, soul, and funk group born right here in Fayetteville, NC, The Fatback Band. Saturday evening closes out with multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning funk R&B recording artist, Rose Royce. On Sunday, organizers are thrilled to welcome the Jubilee stage, multiple Grammy Award and Soul Train Music Award-winning, Motown Gospel recording artist, Tye Tribbett. 

In addition to the stage performances, attendees will be able to partake in the delicious offerings from over 20 local food trucks of all varieties. Artists, artisans, and other local vendors will be on hand to entice visitors with wares for every whim. Non-profit organizations, such as Momma’s Village and NC Counts will be on hand to offer information on history, cultural activities, health resources, and artistic interactions for festival-goers of all ages. Families with children can enjoy bounce houses, yard games, or card games in the games area. With an estimated 100+ vendors, the second annual Juneteenth Jubilee guarantees something for everyone as we gather to celebrate freedom and (comm)unity.

Day One of the Jubilee on Saturday will lean into the influence of 70s funk and soul with Sunday’s event highlighting gospel and soul performances; both days will include local and nationally touring acts. Art will abound at the Jubilee with a Juneteenth Joyscape community mural and a photo exhibition, “Homegrown: A Photo Exhibit Celebrating Fayetteville Leadership and Community Contributors Born or Excelling in the 1970s. Bounce houses and game tables will be on hand in case attendees want to spark a friendly game of Spades, Dominoes, or Uno or even perhaps a Twister challenge. 

JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION 5K 

The Fayetteville Running Club‘s next race held in conjunction with the Fayetteville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Cool Spring Downtown District is only 30 days away!!! Shirts, medals and the swag bag are looking good and waiting for you! All you need to do is sign up and join us! Race was a blast last year and looks to be even bigger this year!! Most likely will sell out!

JUNETEENTH JUBILEE

COSTUME CONTEST 

CAN YOU DIG IT?!? Yes, you can! The Cool Spring Downtown District is excited to host the grooviest Juneteenth celebration during the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration at Festival Park June 17 at 7pm.

Lace up your platform shoes and boogie on down to Groovy Costume Contest in the Juneteenth Jubilee celebration. The Groovy Costume Contest will take place at 7:00PM on the festival park stage. You must check in to the Cigar Bar to the left of the stage by 6:45PM to participate.

The Can You Dig It Trolley 

In addition to all the Jubilee fun in the park, the Can-Do Coldwell Trolley will morph into the “Can You Dig It” Trolley, for an educational history tour focused on Black Fayetteville in the 1970s, curated in partnership with local historian and archivist, Nicholle Young St. Leone. 

Times: 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM (trolley runs approximately 30-45 minutes)

Cost: Admission to the trolley tour is free. Donations are appreciated.

The Fatback Band

The opening headline act is an acclaimed disco, soul, and funk group born right here in Fayetteville, NC, The Fatback Band. Originally founded in 1966 by musician Bill “Fatback” Curtis, The Fatback Band have been getting audiences on the dance floor for 50 years with their influential upbeat, orchestral soul music.  Disco pioneers with a sound that merged jazz and funky beats with a touch of West Indies & Caribbean style, the Fatback Band has released more than 35 albums of original material infused with every imaginable genre of music, from jazz, funk, R&B, disco, rap, and all eras of soul.

 

Rose Royce 

Saturday evening closes out with multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning funk R&B recording artist, Rose Royce. Although Rose Royce is best known for their great ballads, they are one of the funkiest bands around. Audiences will recognize Rose Royce from the soundtrack to the mega-hit movie, Car Wash. With a thirty-five-year recording history under her belt, Rose Royce is still played on contemporary radio stations and has been sampled or covered by many artists, including  Beyonce (“Wishing On A Star”),  Seal (“Love Don’t Live Here Any More”) , and Mary J Blige (“I’m Going Down”).  

 

SUNDAY:

Tye Tribbett

With over 20 years in music and ministry, Tye Tribbett is an accomplished, charismatic, energetic, and dynamic personality. He has collaborated with a plethora of renowned artists such as Faith Hill, Snoop Dog, India Arie, Sting, Common, and Mary J. Blige. 

Often heralded as the “Elvis of Gospel”, and one of the most relevant voices of this generation, in addition to being a Stellar and Dove Award-winning artist, with over 1.3 million albums sold, Tye Tribbett can also be seen pastoring alongside his wife, Shante Tribbett, at their newly launched ministry in Orlando, FL. Tribbett’s musical sound ranges from high-energy praise songs to intimate worship moments, from African rhythms to trap gospel beats, showcasing unique and passionate artistry at its best. 

 

NEW THIS YEAR! CSDD is excited to bring an outdoor skating rink to the Jubilee and encourages everyone to pull up their socks and lace up their roller skates for an Old School Skate Jam (skates provided).
